The UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team is on its way to Oklahoma City and the program’s first NCAA Tournament in 20 years.

The players and coaches boarded buses at the Kress Events Center Wednesday morning to take them to Austin Straubel International Airport.

There’s definitely a feeling of excitement on campus with the first round of the NCAA Tournament now just two days away. The players say it “now all feels very real.”

“It means everything,” senior guard Carrington Love said. “it’s a dream come true. Doing something special like this, hasn’t been done in 20 years, with a great group of guys like this, it’s a dream.”

“We’re the underdogs,” head coach Linc Darner noted. “Nobody’s going to expect us to win. All the pressure’s on them, there’s none on us. Everyone’s picking Texas A&M to play Texas in the next round, so we’re just going to go there, see if we can mess that up a little bit.”

The Phoenix are the 14-seed playing 3-seed Texas A&M at 6:20 p.m. Friday. If they win, Green Bay will play again on Sunday.

The Phoenix secured the berth winning the Horizon League Tournament.
