The Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team defeated Wright State 78-69 in Detroit Tuesday.
They will now advance to the NCAA tournament.
Meanwhile in Green Bay, hundreds of fans gathered tonight to attend a special “watch party,” at a bar on Holmgren Way.
When the clock struck zero, the excitement of fans erupted.
Despite some fans having their doubts at the beginning of the season, now they admire how things turned around for the team.
This is a huge win, and many fans intend to savor it regardless of how well the team does in the NCAA tournament.
“It was great, I waited twenty years,” said Dan Johanski.
Johnanski says he was around the last time the Phoenix made it to an NCAA tournament.
I “didn’t think I would ever see it again, and especially this year. … what a way to finish it,” he added.
Another Phoenix fan agreed. Paul Weiss said, “Great win, great win team effort … all [of] the other players contributed too,” he said.
